Yes, ghost shrimp will clean your tank. As scavengers, ghost shrimp are excellent tank cleaners. They will eat uneaten food, fish waste, and excess algae in the tank.
With that said, you can’t fully rely on your ghost shrimp to fix an algae infestation or keep the tank clean all the time. Regular water changes, around 30% once a week, are necessary to keep your ghost shrimp and other tank inhabitants healthy.
Additionally, installing a sponge water filter is recommended to help maintain the tank’s water quality and provide an additional food source for the shrimp.
