How long do pea puffers live?

Pea puffers live for four to five years. With that said, like with other fish, your pea puffer’s lifespan depends largely on its genetics and the amount of care it receives. If you want your pea puffers to live longer, make sure to provide them with everything they need.

Here are some things you can do to ensure your pea puffers live long and healthy lives:

  • Avoid overcrowding the tank
  • Avoid housing them with large, territorial, and aggressive tank mates
  • Monitor the tank dynamics regularly
  • Provide plenty of live plants in the tank
  • Keep the water temperature around 75°F and 80°F (23.8°C and 26.6°C)
  • Feed them a varied meat-based diet twice a day
  • Set an adequate, but not too strong filtration system
  • Change 25–50% of the water weekly
