You take care of a plecostomus by doing the following:
- Give it plenty of space – around 5 gallons of space for every inch of the fish
- Keep the water warm – between 74° F and 80° F (23° C and 26.5° C)
- Avoid keeping it with aggressive fish
- Provide it with plenty of decorations and hiding spaces
- Only use fine gravel or soft sand
- Provide it with driftwood as a source of food as well as a hiding spot
- Feed it various high-quality foods, such as algae wafers, shrimp pellets, earthworms, bloodworms, and vegetables
- Feed it one to three times a week at night
