RobertI have loved fishkeeping since I was 4 years old. I can still remember visiting my uncles house and seeing his 200 gallon saltwater aquarium for the first time. It had a beautiful reef and a harem of Royal Grammas – I was mesmerized.

Since then my love for fish, aquascaping and aquariums has continued to grow. I got my first tank when I was 5 years old; it was a small 20 gallon cold freshwater setup with a goldfish in. Over time I learnt how to keep more difficult fish and eventually moved into saltwater tanks too.

I have been keeping fish for over 25 years and now have four tanks both salt and freshwater. I have been fortunate enough to keep a wide variety of fish including Cichlids, Discus, Gourami and Guppies.

I am a proud member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the Marine Aquarium Societies of North America and the Nature Conservancy. I believe that it’s important if we want to care for these incredible fish in our tanks, then we must preserve their natural environment and learn as much as possible about these fish in their natural environment.

When I’m not staring at my tanks or at work you will find me reading. I like to read both fiction and non-fiction but I especially like reading about nature and wildlife. My favorite thing is to read about natural marine environments and recreate these in my tanks. I have even been fortunate enough to visit these places; recently I travelled to Thailand to see Bettas in the Chao Phraya river.

Outside of fishkeeping and reading I also like to stay active and am a keen runner. I’ve competed in several marathons but unfortunately as I’ve aged my knees aren’t what they once were, so now I tend to run shorter distances.

Fishkeeping helps me live my best life; it makes me happy, calm and helps me de-clutter my mind after a hard day at work. I have been privileged to care for some incredible fish in my time. Through my writings I hope I can pass on the lessons my uncle and grandfather taught me so you can share this privilege too.

If you have any questions be sure to contact me, it’s great to meet you and I hope the website helps you.
