You’ll know your zebra danios are stressed if they exhibit any of the following signs:
- Frantic swimming
- Fins locked to the sides of the body
- Loss of appetite
- Swimming at the surface
- Gasping
- Sluggish behavior
- Laying at the bottom of the tank
- White spots around the body
- Bulging or cloudy eyes
Many factors can stress out zebra danios, including poor water conditions, lack of food, poor nutrition, change of environment, incompatible tank mates, an overcrowded tank, and even loneliness.
To reduce the stress level of your zebra danios, make sure to maintain the proper water parameters, keep their tank clean, and provide them with nutritious food. Also, keep at least five danios together but avoid overcrowding their tank. You can also get peaceful tankmates to keep them company.
