Are German blue rams bottom feeders?

No, German blue rams are not bottom feeders. Even though these fish spend most of their time at the bottom of the tank, they’re not true bottom feeders.

Like bottom feeders, German blue rams love to dig in substrate, so they spend a lot of time at the bottom of the tank.

To protect their scales and skin, make sure to give them a fine substrate like sand that they can dig through safely. If you can’t use sand, gravel and aquatic plant soil are also great alternatives.

Because they love staying at the bottom of the tank, you shouldn’t keep many other bottom feeders. German blue rams can be aggressive if they feel like other fish are trying to take space in their territory.
